New Angry Birds Spin-Off from Rovio

Rovio has just released a new mobile game called Bad Piggies, which it hopes will help turn fortunes around. The game is a spin-off of the world beating Angry Birds, which has been downloaded an amazing 1 billion times.

Rovio recently released a highly publicised game – Amazing Alex, which flopped significantly failing to live up to the success of the 209 game. However, if Bad Piggies does well and sells to a high degree it is expected that Rovio will float its stock as soon as in the coming 12 months.

Like Angry Birds the game uses physics in its environment, though involves the construction of vehicles that are then used to drive the pigs to the finish line. The pigs also have to collect stars along the way – making the game all the more interesting.

The original Angry Birds had over 200m players a month, though the Angry Birds in Space instalment that followed was not nearly as successful. The same was the case for Amazing Alex a character that failed to stay in the top 50 games in the mobile gaming charts.

Many claim the reason for Angry Birds success was that it received numerous celebrity endorsements and also was one of the best games during tablets and smart phones initial boom. The company then managed to move into other areas and 30% of its turnover came from Angry Birds cuddly toys last year.

The company could be marketed at between $6-9Bn depending on how Bad Piggies performs. This would mean it would be nearly as large as Finnish firm Nokia – quite the feat.  Experts say for the company to receive this upper level valuation the new game must stay in the top half of the charts for half of the year after it is released.
